Major horse event for Margaret River
There is to be a major equestrian event at Margaret River next month. The 'Equirama', combines camp drafting, cutting and polocrosse and will be held on November 24 and 25 in conjunction with a premium horse sale.
It is billed as the richest competition of its kind in WA and will be a big drawcard for horse enthusiasts according to a spokesperson, Sophie Clohessy.
The programme will feature horse professionals like Todd Graham in the sport of cutting, Peter Comiskey in camp drafting, Paul Brennan in polocrosse and celebrity horseman, Dan James. Fortunately the horses arrived in WA before the outbreak of equine flu, she said.
Having these professionals running clinics and demonstrations at the same event is a first for WA. "All this is combined with high class equestrian events in the pristine Margaret River district with its great wine and food," said Equirama co-ordinator, Kent Osmotherly.
To top things off there will be a sale of top quality camp drafting, cutting and polocrosse horses conducted by Farmworks Livestock. The sale will involve a maximum of 20 ridden horses from two years old to older experienced horses, he said.
The event has been modelled on three of the most successful horse events in Australia - Paradise Lagoons camp draft in Rockhampton, the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity at Tamworth and world cup polocrosse held at Warwick.
I have just taken a bit out of every event and rolled them in to the one weekend. "It will be a lot of fun for everyone," Mr Osmotherly said.
