FarmWorks to sponsor new section in cattle

The Cattle competition at the Wagin Woolorama continues to grow from strength to strength with new stewards and new sponsors in 2007. New sponsors in the cattle section are FarmWorks who are sponsoring the "FarmWorks Interschool Heifer Challenge" which is a new class at Woolorama.

FarmWorks livestock manager Harold Sealy is pleased to be able to encourage students in the agricultural sector by offering this sponsorship.

"We are excited to offer this new class and I see it as an opportunity for schools with stud cattle to be involved. Woolorama is the first cattle event on the show calendar and a great time to introduce new students to the stud cattle scene. As well as the FarmWorks interschool heifer challenge this years Woolorama will cater for 2 age groups in the heifer and junior bull classes" said Brad Patterson Head Steward of the Cattle section at Woolorama.

The challenge will be held on Friday 9th and the heifers will also be eligible to enter their breed classes. Heifers need to be born on or after 1st January 2006 and bred by an agricultural school or college. Brad has been bring cattle to Woolorama for 8 years and has been on the cattle committee for 5 years while his joint head steward Kel Patterson has been with the Woolorama cattle competition from its beginnings.

"Taking on the head steward role from Ron Walker means we can just slot into a role that has been done very well in the past and with the help of a very supportive committee Kel and I can just steer the helm really" says Brad "We have excellent sponsorship in place and it is only with our sponsors that we can run such a good competition for cattle at Woolorama". Continuing the focus on youth in the cattle section are the two judges in the stud cattle section.

Trinity Golding from "Little Meadows" Angus stud in Waterloo has won the RAC junior judging at the Perth Royal show and will be representing WA at the national championships at the Brisbane Royal show. James Morris from Quairading will be judging in the other ring. Peter Cowcher from "Wilandra" stud in Williams will be judging the commercial cattle. It is a priority in the Cattle competition to encourage the participation of young people.

With the average age of farmers today being 52 it is vital that young people get as many opportunities as they can to learn and participate in all rural activities.
Woolorama continues to promote rural Australia to our city cousins and also hopes to give people the tools to make farming a viable business option by showcasing new technology, the best and most profitable sheep, cattle, pigs and goats, new machinery and other rural innovations that can enhance the farm business.

Woolorama also is a fun weekend to catch up with friends, enjoy gourmet food and wine, see some wonderful live entertainment, keep the children entertained and do some shopping. Wagin Woolorama March 9th and 10th.
