FarmWorks Manjimup Bulls Top $1132

Cattle from as far as Kojonup, Noggerup and Bridgetown were included in the yarding of about 260 head at the FarmWorks Manjimup sale last week, along with classified local areas of Manjimup, Pemberton and Northcliffe.
Heavy bulls sold to $1132, or 108-128c/kg, while the small penning of steers reached $770 and 196c/kg, which was paid for the few vealer types.
The strong demand for lightweight bulls suitable for shipping was a feature of the sale, with these equalling the steer prices in cents per kg on several occassions.
Beef heifers sold from $200 to $672 and a creditable 160c/kg.
A good selection of slaughter cows were sold with heavy cows making up to $878 and 110c/kg, with a couple of lines bordering NCV's.
The top bull price was paid for an Angus from RF & MR Bilney when the 960kg bull was sold to WMP for 118c/kg and $1132.
The other bulls to sell for more then $1000 included a Gelbvieh from L & G Ockwell, Pemberton, at $1031, and an Angus from the estate of Rosa Scolari, Noggerup, that made $1010 at 121c/kg.
All the animals went to WMP.
Greg Jones, buying for WMP and several other accounts, would have accumulated close to 75% of the offering and at one stage bought 17 consecutive pens.
Mr Jones is to be commended for paying value on all lines, at times even lifting the price in 10c increases.
John Oolsthorn, Burekup, put together a truckload of the lighter bulls that would be suitable to be shipped later, with two from Est Rosa Scolari at $562 and 120c/kg the first that were bought, with another of 455kg at 128c/kg that cost $582.
The older steers started with a line of seven Grey steers that were in good condition from F & C Frontino, and weighed 631kg, that went to WMP at 122c/kg and $770.
Another seven blacks from the same vendor were sold for 135c/kg and $693.
Six more Grey steers from the draft sold for 135c/kg and $693.
S & S Stoiche broke the WMP dominance for one pen when they secured two steers from F & C Frontino for $631, paying 123c/kg for the 513kg cattle.
Elgin Park, Elgin, sold six Angus for 124c/kg and $686 to Mr Stoiche, as well as a grey steer at 123c/kg and $621 to WMP - some of the better results.
The top heifer was a single Angus that was sold by WJ & JN Mincherton, Bellerup, when the 560kg female was bought buy WMP at 120c/kg and $672 with another of 520kg in the pen going the same way for $624 at the same price per/kg.
F Posetto, Manjimup, sold two Simmental heifers for 156c/kg to see the 398kg cattle make $621.
Ironically, a steer of 430kg in the same pen sold for 145c/kg, returning $623, when these were bought by Narrogin Beef and WMP2.
Peter Scherini, Bridgetown, had a pen of Murray Grey heifers at the sale with the tops weighing 340kg and selling for 160c/kg and $544. Mr Scherini also sold a pen of six steers of 339kg with Narrogin beef adding these to the load at 174c/kg and $590.
The top of 196c/kg went to a single Angus from RS Marshall, Manjimup, when the lightweight of 270kg was sold to Alan Tuthill for $529.
RL & KJ McKenzie, Manjimup, sold six grey steers for 181c/kg to see the 305kg cattle cost it's buyer "Charcoal", $552.
Fucinella Brothers added to the competition on yearling steers, paying 165c/kg and $454 for two that were sold to the account of P & R Pardini and 167c/kg for four of the RF & MR Bilney cattle that cost $441.
The top cow price went to three Simmental from F Pesotto when the 798kg cows made 110c/kg and $878 when they were bought by WMP.
Close behind were thee similar cows that were sold by AB, GL & SM Kamman.
These weighed 780kg and also made 110c/kg to return $858.
Other cows of good quality sold from 86-100c/kg, with off-types well below these values.

What the agent said: FarmWorks auctioneer Neil Foale said after the sale that it was a very strong bull market with heavy bulls up 7c to 8c/kg. "Good quality steers were slightly easier while heifers were up 5c to 7c/kg, with strong feeder demand," he said. "The good, quality section of the cow market would have been up 3c-5c/kg." |
