FarmWorks QLD - Barlyne Stud |
Barlyne Stud principles Jim and Lee Edwards have been in the cattle business all their lives. They have run and owned cattle properties in the Pilbara from the late sixties to 1990. Combining that with an aerial mustering business in the Kimberly's in the 70's and the Pilbara in the 80's and 90's. They have been breeding Red Brahman and Droughtmaster bulls at Gayndah Queensland for the last 10 years and exporting them along with other studs to the Kimberly, Pilbara and Gascoyne regions for that period. Nearly 2,000 bulls have crossed the border in that time. They have now formed an alliance with FarmWorks to supply good quiet cattle to all areas in WA and the Northern Territory. They have a large group of well known breeders available to supply a wide range of genetics. Services include:

BRAHMANS
Muan Red Brahman Stud |
Muan Brahman stud was established in 1984 by Len and Peter Gibbs. It is located 13km west of Biggenden and is a family business run in conjunction with Muan feedlot and Biggenden Meatworks. The stud was started with the aim of developing a herd of red Brahman cattle focusing on fertility, temperament, structure and growth. In particular, females must be consistent breeders with good udders. With around 350 stud females as well as commercial cows, the stud produces around 120 red Brahman bulls each year. These are marketed through the Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale (averaging $6,000) and through paddock/private sales. AI, ET, and IVF programmes are continuing with Australian, American and South African Sires. New additions to Australian bloodlines are Mt Callan Govenor (1/3 share bought RBWS 2007 $55,000.00) and Muan Heculis (sold RBWS $ 50,000.00). NCC Mboma (South African) calves are showing exceptional bone, length and muscle. All display an excellent temperament and several will be included in the Sale team for 2008. AI/ET calves from Winchester Magnum 999 and BB Stingray will also be in the draft. Paddock sales are available all year and buyers are encouraged to visit at any time. Alma Park Brahman Stud |
Alma Park Brahman Stud is operated by Allan and Robyn Sorley. Allan's father Alec introduced the first Brahmans to the Bell area in 1957. He registered "Alma" stud as A.N. Sorley and Sons in 1963. Allan, Robyn and daughters Jeanette and Dianne have continued to operate under the stud prefix of "Alma Park". Daughters Jeanette and Dianne also operate small studs under their own stud prefix. Jeanette operates "J-Net" Brahman stud and Dianne "Fyrish" Brahman stud. The main focus of the Red Brahman herd has been selecting for good temperament, sound udders and recently have started testing some cattle for feed efficiency and tenderness genes, whilst still aiming to maintain a well fleshed, well muscled beast. We aim to concentrate on breeding a larger proportion of polled cattle in the future. "Alma Park" markets stud bulls and females in Rockhampton and will also be selling at Fitzroy Crossing in August. Paddock sales of both male and females are available all year round. CONTACT: Allan & Robyn Sorley Ph: (07) 4663 1142 |
Alma Brahman Stud |
The Sorley family first introduced brahmans to the district. Stan and Lesley Sorley are continuing the tradition breeding a predominately red herd with some greys. Alma is also a foundation Droughtmaster Stud making it one of the oldest droughtmaster studs still in operation. Stan and family have been concentrating on breeding well boned, polled cattle that can handle any conditions. Bulls are sold annually at the Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale, National Droughtmaster Sale and Fitzroy Crossing Sale. CONTACT: Stan Sorley |
Mount Hastings Grey Brahman Stud |
Mount Hastings has been breeding grey Brahman cattle for the last 15 years near Biggenden. Originally Mount Hastings had Brafords, but fazed them out for the hardiness of the Brahman breed. We have continued to concentrate on the grey Brahman with a strong Hudgins background. Top prices came in 2006 in Charters Towers and Rockhampton, selling bulls at $13, 000 and $18, 000, respectively. The stud has continued to develop muscle and bone structure in to their herd, with the help of AI and embryo programs. We have generally got some bulls for sale at most times and as we expand our embryo programs we will be prepared to sell some of our stud females. CONTACT: Gordon Downing Ph: (07) 5441 1122 |

Rathlyn Brahman Stud |
Charles Lund has been involved in the cattle industry all his life & was quick to identify the benefits of a Brahman based herd. So back in 1974 he commenced Rathlyn Brahman Stud with the desire to grow functional, fertile cattle that maximize dollars over the hoof. Our own extensive involvement in the commercial cattle arena remains a hallmark of our desire to grow bulls that adapt to extensive conditions & produce consistent progeny with maximum weight for age. Peter & Joy Newman (nee Lund) are increasingly active in the management of the company & particularly Rathlyn Brahman Stud. They are busily serving their apprenticeship and are keen to guide the stud into the future. The cowherd is based at "Laglan Station" to this day. This allows the herd to be tested in true extensive conditions in Central Queensland. AI, ET & purchase of selected seed stock will remain an integral part of our pursuit for excellence. Sale bulls are now hosted at "Inta" & "Lalise" at Emerald (Central Queensland). This allows for easier preparation and viewing of these animals. CONTACT Joy NewmanWeb: www.laglan.com |
DROUGHTMASTERS
Crusader Droughtmaster Stud |
The Crusader Droughtmaster Stud was established in 1969 on light coastal country and was relocated onto the current property "Mally Plain" in 1990. We have always placed a strong emphasis on producing "middle of the road", docile, functional cattle with high fertility traits. This is borne out in recent times, topping the National Female Sale 3 times (most recently Crusader Wattle 2006 - $ 9500 at 31 months) and having sold at the National Bull Sale for nearly 30 years (achieving top Sale average on many occasions).

The Birch Droughtmaster Stud owned by Jim, Betty, Douglas & Juanita Birch, located at Theodore in Central Queensland was first registered in 1999 with the purchase of registered females and using the upgrading process of selected females from our purebred Droughtmaster commercial herd. We now run 150 registered breeders in 3 single sire herds in conjunction with 500 commercial cows selling 40-50 registered and herd bulls per year at auction and through paddocks sales. Recent sires have been sourced from Crusader, Glenlands, Billabong and Trafalgar Studs. Breeders are subjected to a rigorous culling process with major emphasis placed on correct conformation, femininity (fertility), milking ability and in particular quiet temperament. Bi-Mingo Droughtmaster |
By-Mingo Droughtmaster Stud is owned and operated by Don & Robyn Roberton and was started in 2000 to run along-side our existing commercial enterprise. Our entire breeding operation is based on the more fertile forest country of the Central Burnett with the stud breeders expected to produce under the same conditions as our commercial herd. All weaners are grown out on our better country. We rate the maternal & fertility aspects of our breeders very highly. Our breeders must produce a good calf every year with any empty females culled - there are no "excuses". A large percentage of our purebred stud females are based on the successful Hillside Park herd along with careful selection of purchased females from other established studs such as Comanche. Bulls must be structurally sound. Loose sheaths are not tolerated. Good foot structure and the ability to walk and cover the country is a must. Sires have been chosen from Billabong, Clonlara & Minlacowie studs. Good temperament underlies all our selection as we are a family operation and we have our young family in the yards with us. One of our shorter term goals is the introduction of more polled cattle. A large percentage of our females are polled and we are planning to invest more heavily in the introduction of polled bulls.
